It has a capacity of handling 100 animals per day with a catchment area extending to Saviefe, Dzolo, Dodome, Avatime and other communities with a total population of more than 50, 000 people.

The Kpedze slaughter house project began in 2016 with funding under the District Development Facility.

Apart from the enclosure for the animals, the slaughter house also has veterinary offices.

The Deputy Regional Minister  during the inauguration  ceremony lamented widespread lack of time management among the young people and their habitual lateness to work and various public functions was seriously undermining productivity in the country.

The programme which was scheduled to start at 9 a.m. dragged for well over one-and-a-half hours.

“Our noble chiefs have been seated here for hours while the young people and other residents are yet to turn up and this is a shame,” Rev Avuletey pointed out.

Turning to the event, he said that the slaughter house was yet another monumental evidence of government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to the people.

The slaughter house, according to him, was to enable butchers and the public to sell and buy meat under very hygienic conditions, with the available services of veterinary officers at the facility.

The Deputy Regional Minister entreated the handlers of the slaughter house to take utmost care of it and keep it clean all the time, so that it would benefit even generations yet unborn.

He urged the chiefs of the area to constantly visit and monitor the slaughter house to ensure its proper handling by the butchers and buyers as well.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Ernest Apau, made it clear that the slaughter house was meant to benefit all and sundry and not only a section of the public.

“This will relieve the people of the Ho West District the inconvenience of travelling to the Ho municipality to buy meat”, he added.
