LaDMA hands over WASH facilities to five schools
The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has handed over five Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to five educational institutions in the municipality.
The beneficiary schools are Anteson Roman Catholic Primary School, Yaoshua School, St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, La Presbyterian Senior High School and Forces Senior High Technical School.
The WASH facility each has a toilet, washing, urinal, changing room, polytank, borehole and other places for teachers and students.
It was funded by African Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
The Municipal Coordinating Director for LaMDA, Daniel Nkrumah, who handed over the facilities to the Education Directorate on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (MCE), Solomon K. Nikoi, reiterated the assembly’s commitment to providing educational infrastructure, and its accessories to encourage teaching and learning, which was not enough without the provision of WASH facilities.
“This facility will bring about responsible students who will not run away from school when teaching is on going to attend to natures call in bush or urinate on the walls of the school but rather encourage them to use the facility to promote decent behaviours,” he indicated.
He tasked the students and school authorities to ensure the judicious use and regular maintenance of the facilities and for future benefits.
Ms Habiba Kotomah, Municipal Education Director, LaDMA, received the keys and later handed them to the various heads who promised to maintain the facilities for the benefit of students.
Ms Kotomah acknowledged that lack of WASH facilities was affecting teaching and learning across the country, especially for the girls and females in general.
She called on management of the beneficiary schools to keep an eagle’s eye on the use of the facilities by preventing students from writing on the walls.
Ms Dorinda Ayorkor Tettey, the Headmistress of La Presbyterian SHS, thanked the assembly and the sponsors for their support and pledged to put the facility to good use for the benefit generations.
