Legon Cities, Accra Lions share spoils

Legon Cities shared the spoils with Accra Lions in a pulsating encounter at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The game, which was almost marred by poor refereeing decisions, saw fans react angrily at the end.

Following a slow start to the game, it was Legon Cities who had the best chance of the half after Williams Kwaku Adjei was left with goalkeeper Osei Bonsu to beat, but the striker took time as the defenders of Accra Lions dispossessed him.

Accra Lions however dominated the game with forward, Lucky Nwafor, coming close with a header which ended up with Baba Apiiga firing wide.

Just before half time, Salman Faris was brilliantly put through by Remember Boateng but the winger could not go past his marker.

After the break, Accra Lions goalkeeper, Osei Bonsu, was tested by Albert Amoah.

Halfway through the second half, Accra Lions were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box which was quickly taken by Remember Boateng before a rebound from Fuzy Taylor was cleared by the hosts.

The game had a tense finish following wrongful refereeing decisions against the visitors.

The Head Coach of Cities, Paa Kwesi Fabin, has appealed for patience from fans amid the team’s struggles in the competition.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin argued that his team was a young squad and will need time to gel.

He called on fans to be patient and support the team through this difficult time.

“Most of our boys are from the lower leagues, and so, it means that we need to keep guiding them and they’ll need some time to gel.

“The boys play very well but getting the ball into the net which is the most important of them all is just what we are lacking. We ask the fans to be patient because we have a young squad, once they pick up, they’ll be great,” Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin mentioned.

Up next for Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin and his Legon Cities side, the team will take on giant Asante Kotoko in midweek.
