Let 2024 elections be peaceful…Ya Na appeals to Ghanaians

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the chiefs and people of Dagbon for understanding one another to bring lasting peace to the protracted chieftaincy conflict in the Dagbon Kingdom.

He said the reconciliation com­mittee that worked to ensure there was peace in Dagbon needed to be commended for the good work done.

“The lasting peace to the Dagbon protracted chieftaincy is an achieve­ment to my government,” the President stated.

The President said these here in Yendi at the Gbewaa palace yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Ya-Na Abukari Mahama to “inform you that the mandate the good people of this country give me is coming to an end and I feel that it is good for me to come and to thank you for what have done for me as King of Dagbon.”

President Akufo-Addo added that the stability of peace in Yendi and its environs had brought so much development to the entire Dagbon Kingdom.

He stated that other tradition­al areas in Ghana must emulate the good examples of Dagbon to ensure that they was lasting peace across the traditional area of this country.

He said he was happy for serving the people of this country to the best of his knowledge.

President Akufo-Addo appealed to Ya-Na and his sub chiefs, the people of Dagbon to rally behind the NPP Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, by voting for him to succeed him to continue with the good works of the party.

The Ya-Na Abukari Mahama in his address said the selfless effort of the President in supporting and bringing reconciliation and peace to Dagbon would forever be etched in his heart.

He said his decisive leadership in ending the protracted mediation process between Abudu and Andani families by the esteemed committee of eminent kings, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, the Nayiri and the Yagbon­wura was a masterstroke that paved way for the performance of the funerals of two Ya-Nanima.

Ya-Na said his continued support to ensure they was installation of new Ya-Na and sustained guidance had maintained peace in their be­loved Dagbon.

He said even though there were pockets of lawlessness which was due to their own inactions and impatience they are still enjoying unprecedented peace in Dagbon.

“We cannot thank you enough and pray that the good Lord would continue to bless you appropriate­ly,” he stated.

Ndan Ya-Na applauded him for appointing his children and grand­children to various positions to his administration.

He therefore appealed to Gha­naians for a peaceful and smooth elections across the country.

The Member of Parliament (MP), Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, said the peace that the government had brought to the area had made him to channel more resources to the area.

He said through the peace that they were enjoying he had been able to put more infrastructure develop­ment into the constituency.

“The good people of Dagbon will forever remember you for the peace you have given us,” Alhaji Mahama added.

He however called on the people of Yendi and Dagbon to give peace more chance for the development of the Dagbon Kingdom.
