LOC unveils plans to brand Accra for 13th African Games

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games has unveiled plans to massively brand the city of Accra ahead of the Games in March, 2024.

Addressing journalists at a press soirée at the LOC’s Secretariat at Abelemkpe on Friday, the Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO) of the LOC, Mr Reks Brobby, said some vantage points in the capital would be branded to whip up publicity for the Games.

This, he explained, would not only intensify the public awareness of the event but also woo potential sponsors to support the organisation of the Games.

“The LOC has embarked on a vigorous campaign to increase visibility. We have already started branding with works ongoing at the Kotoka International Airport. The airport branding will alert our brothers in the diaspora over our preparedness to host the rest of Africa,” Mr Reks Brobby said.

Apart from the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Mr Brobby disclosed that branding would take place along stretches including the King Tackie Tawiah interchange to Aburi, the King Tackie Tawiah interchange to Kasoa, the King Tackie Tawiah interchange to the Osu High Street and the King Tackie Tawiah Interchange to Teshie.

The Chairman of the LOC Media Sub Committee, Mr Dan Kwaku Yeboah, said the LOC has developed an excellent relationship with the media and enumerated a series of media engagements undertaken to inform about the preparedness for the hosting of the Games.

“We also have a very functional website with multiple languages to meet the African Union’s requirement, as well as official social media pages of the LOC,” he added

Contributing, the Executive Chairman of the LOC, Dr Kwaku Fosu-Asare, urged the media to project the Games in a positive light and thanked the government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) for their unwavering commitment towards hosting of a successful African Games.

Also in attendance were LOC members including Mr Sampson Dean – Head of Transport; Dr Beatrice Dwumfour Williams – Anti-doping; Mr Halid Osman Ahmed – Security; Dr Kwame Baah Nuaku – Marketing; Madam Joyce Datsa – Accommodation and Logistics; Mr Ernest Danso – Chef du Mission for Team Ghana; Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah – Chief Operating officer of the LOC and Mr Kwesi Mantey.
