Lucky Annan Ayisah wins Memory Lane PGA championship in Kumasi

Achimota Golf Club’s Lucky Annan Ayisah put up a spirited display over three days to emerge winner of the Memory Lane PGA Championship played at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.

Ayisah played 216 points to finish ahead of thirty other professional golfers that competed for the title and cash prize.

The championship served as the last qualifier for the PGA’s main championship slated for the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono in November and attracted some of the finest players in the country.

Despite some slight early showers, the well-trimmed greens provided the golfers decent opportunity to put up their best.

On the final day, Ayisah came out of his shells, maintained his composure on the course and bagged 74 points to raise his total to 216 to clinch the title.

Manasseh Augustine from Tema finished second after playing 73, 75, and 71 to share the same spot with home-based golfer, Maxwell Owusu Bonsu.

Kwabena Poku and Francis Torgah settled for the fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Speaking after receiving his prize from the Operations Manager of the Royal Golf Club, Prof. Bernard Kofi Baiden, the winner Ayisah expressed his excitement for the feat, adding that his preparations and hard work contributed to the success.

In the senior’s category which attracted 10 players, Stephen Klah grabbed the first spot with 153 points and followed by K. Korsah and Teye Lartey of the Centre of the World Club.

Achimota club’s Jessica Tei won the ladies top prize after playing 169 over two days ahead of Mercy Werner, Constance Awuni and Felicity Gyeabour.

Speaking to the media, the Tournament Director the PGA, Mr Eric Henaku, praised the golfers for the splendid display despite some challenges on the course, and urged them to train harder for the major competition.
