The Bishop Boxing Promotions (BBP) has announced Good Friday, April 3, for the third edition of its ‘Best of Bukom’ boxing series slated for the Bukom Boxing Arena, in Accra.
According to Dave Bishop, Chief Executive Officer of the syndicate, this year’s Good Friday would not only be for religion but one that would ‘resurrect’ the interest and passion of the sport of boxing.
• Ghislain Vodounhessi
“The air crackles with tension as the countdown begins. The resurrection is coming! A powerful force set to awaken the hearts of all non-believers. Prepare yourselves, for Bishop Boxing Promotions is about to unveil something monumental,” he said.
‘Best of Bukom 3,’ he disclosed, would be headlined by a lightweight clash between Ghana’s Madjid Yakubu, who joined the Bishop Boxing Promotions stable recently, and Beninois contender, Ghislain Vodounhessi, in what promises to be fireworks.
“In a clash that promises to electrify the very soul of boxing, Ghislain Vodounhessi, a determined warrior with a record of 25 wins and five losses—faces off against the rising star, Madjid Yakubu, a striking talent at four wins and a loss. This is not just a fight; it’s a revelation waiting to unfold,” Mr Bishop stated in a statement released on the upcoming promotion.
Yakubu’s only blemish on an otherwise impressive record came against Joseph ‘Jaguar’ Commey, as he showed resilience and courage against one of the finest in the lightweight class in Ghana.
According to Mr Bishop, the syndicate would soon announce other impressive bouts for the evening that is set to entertain boxing lovers not just in Ghana but across the globe.
“Set your sights on Good Friday, April 3. On this fateful night, we will transform the skeptics into believers, and the echoes of the ring will resonate with the fervor of the crowd,” he indicated.
In another development, Dave Boxing Promotions is set to launch an initiative dubbed ‘Punch Pairing Company,’ a fair and open platform for boxing talent.
In a statement signed by the CEO, Dave Bishop, he said the initiative will strengthen and democratize the boxing ecosystem in Ghana.
The new platform, he noted, would be founded on the principle of providing a level playing field where all bout listings, match pairings, and performance information would be transparent and accessible to all, and not a single gym, coach, or matchmaker.
Key to the sustenance of the platform is the involvement of matchmakers, coaches, and emerging talents, adding that:
“Our aim is to make sure these athletes and their teams have equal access to exposure and advancement.”
