Man gets 9 years for defiling girl, 9
A Kumasi Circuit Court, has sentenced a 38-year-old corn mill
operator to nine years imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old, at
Fankyenebra in Kumasi.
Kwame Michael, accused, pleaded guilty and was
convicted on his plea.
Police Chief Inspector Mercy Quaye told the court
presided by Mrs Comfort Tasiame that on September 26, this year, at about 3pm,
the accused, saw the victim on her way home after school and called her to his workshop.
Prosecution said suspect asked the girl to fetch
water in an uncompleted building, and whilst the girl was fetching water, accused
accosted her and defiled her.
Chief Insp Quaye said a witness in the case,
reported the incident to the victim’s father, Mr Kwaku Abofa, and this led to
the arrest of accused the same day.
The court heard that a police medical form which
was given to victim to seek medical treatment, was endorsed by medical
officers.
Chief Quaye said in his caution statement, the
accused confessed to the offence. -GNA.
