Manasseh grabs PGA’s Golden Classic Golf Championship trophy
New golf sensation, Augustine Manasseh,put up a spirited performance to emerge winnerof the Golden Classic Golf Championship staged at the Centre of the World Club in Tema over the weekend.
He smiled home with a trophy and a cash prize of GH¢5,000.
That came barely a week after he pocketedGH¢20,000 at the 2024 President’s Putter Championship staged at the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono.
The Tema based golfer played 206 under par for a period of three days to annex the competition’s top prize cash afterbeating 40 other top golfers.
Speaking after the prize presentation, Manasseh expressed excitement over what he described as a hard-fought victory against some of the best professional golfers in the country.
Runner-up, Vincent Torgah, played 208 under par during the three days to take home GH¢4,000 and described the championship as a very difficult one so he would have to improve to have any chance of winning the main championship later in the year.
Torgah was followed in third position by Emmanuel Osei who finished ahead of Kojo Barnni and Enoch Kofi Owusu.
In the senior’s category which was played for two days, Robert Allotey and Emos Korblah emerged joint winners after playing 147 over the period.
Speaking during a short closing ceremony, the Tournament Director of the PGA, MrEric Henaku, congratulated the golfers for their display and discipline,and called for more sponsors to enable the PGA stage the tournaments frequently across the country.
The Golden Classic Golf tournament is one of the four flagship competitions underthe PGA’s Road to Damang series.
