Minority gives to Kantamanto fire victims

The Minority in Parliament yesterday donated GH¢200,000 to victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Kantamanto Market in Accra to support affected traders who are still struggling to rebuild their businesses.
The donation, led by the Minority Leader, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of fire victims in Accra and Kumasi.
It follows a similar gesture made to victims of the devastating Adum Blue Light Market fire in Kumasi, where another round of support was extended by the parliamentary group on Tuesday.
Addressing the affected traders during the presentation at Kantamanto, Mr Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the Minority’s commitment to standing with vulnerable citizens in times of distress.
He emphasised that while donations alone cannot restore everything that has been lost, the act of reaching out is a clear demonstration of solidarity and compassion.
“It is important to recognise these gestures as acts of love and support. We encourage you not to give up but to stay strong, united, and hopeful.”
“This donation is a commitment to national support and inclusiveness,” he added.
He further urged the traders to remain resilient and continue working hard despite the challenges they currently face, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence and social harmony in rebuilding their livelihoods.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the traders, one of the Kantamanto market leaders, Mr Aikins Boakye, expressed profound gratitude to the Minority for their “timely intervention” and compassion.
He revealed that so far, his outfit has received GH¢800,000 from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), “and we are committed to using this money to directly support all affected traders,” he said.
He also pledged that the traders will continue to maintain peace and unity within the market as they work towards recovery.
Mr Aikins described the gesture as a morale booster during a difficult time.
