Minority Leader questions NADMO over flood relief distribution

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticised the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), alleging that it distributed baked beans and Indomie noodles to flood victims despite the release of funds for relief efforts.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament yesterday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said information available to him indicated that NADMO officials visited Nima and Accra New Town on Tuesday to distribute baked beans and Indomie noodles to affected residents.

“We have been told that some funds have been released to NADMO. Only yesterday, Mr. Speaker, we saw NADMO at Nima and Accra New Town sharing baked beans and Indomie. Baked beans. Baked beans,” he said.

The Minority Leader questioned why the organisation did not use the funds to procure what he described as more essential food items and support for businesses affected by the floods.

He argued that flood victims needed meaningful assistance to help them recover, rather than what he considered inadequate relief items.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on the government and NADMO to ensure that relief funds are used effectively to provide appropriate support to people affected by the recent floods.
