Mion Education Directorate takes delivery of mono desks
The Mion District Education Directorate has received 1,520 mono desks for distribution to selected public schools across the district.
The furniture was jointly presented by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mion Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Misbaw Adam Mahama, and the Mion District Assembly on Saturday.
The gesture, facilitated through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), was aimed at improving teaching and learning by providing furniture to public schools in the district.
Alhaji Mahama said the presentation followed an appeal by the Mion District Director of Education, after which he lobbied the GETFund for the provision of the desks.
He said investment in education remained his topmost priority, adding that the quality of teaching and learning could be improved when students were provided with adequate teaching and learning materials.
“The presentation is part of my commitment to strengthen education infrastructure to ensure that every child in the constituency have access to a very conducive environment,” Alhaji Mahama said.
He said he would continue to lobby for infrastructure development for the people of the Mion District and beyond, and urged the District Director of Education to ensure that the desks were used for their intended purpose.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Mion, Mr Hamza Azindoo Moabalyn, said quality education remained a cornerstone of national development and a priority for both the district and the country as a whole.
Mr Moabalyn reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment and support for initiatives that enhanced educational development in the area.
He said investment in education was an investment in the future development of the district, and therefore assured constituents of the government’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at improving educational infrastructure and logistics.
The DCE stressed that the Assembly would continue to prioritise interventions that enhanced education at all levels in the district.
He called on school authorities to take proper care of the furniture to ensure its durability.
The Mion District Director of Education, Mr Mohammed Amin Dawuda, who received the desks on behalf of the beneficiary schools, expressed gratitude to the MP and the Assembly for lobbying through the GETFund for the support.
He said when he took over as District Director of Education a year ago, he realised that the furniture deficit was very high, prompting him to quickly appeal to the Assembly and the MP for assistance.
He described the intervention as timely, noting that it would significantly reduce the furniture deficit and improve learning outcomes in schools across the district.
Mr Dawuda said the initiative demonstrated the government’s commitment to strengthening basic education at the grassroots level.
