MoE signs landmark deal with Google to modernise education

The Ministry of Education has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google for Education to modernise the country’s education delivery system.

The strategic agreement marks a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to transform teaching and learning through the integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The partnership is expected to enhance digital literacy, build the capacity of teachers, promote innovation in classrooms and equip students with critical 21st-century skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana, while the Global Managing Director of Google for Education, Kelvin Kells, signed for the technology firm.

Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, the Minister described the agreement as a transformative milestone, which, he said, underscored the government’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation and strategic global partnerships to improve educational outcomes.

He indicated that the collaboration would help prepare Ghanaian learners for the future of work and position the country to compete effectively in the digital age.

The agreement, he noted, also placed Ghana among forward-looking nations determined to harness the potential of artificial intelligence and digital transformation to build a competitive, inclusive and future-ready education system.

The collaboration further reflects the government’s broader vision of ensuring that no Ghanaian child is left behind in the rapidly evolving digital age.
