MTN FA Cup: Golden Kick kick out Hearts of Oak

The record holders of the MTN FA Cup, Accra Hearts of Oak, have been knocked out of the competition at the round 16 stage after losing 4-3 on penalties to Division One side Golden Kick at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon yesterday.

Both teams came into the game with the mindset of possessing the ball and exploiting the empty spaces, and it worked for them, but the strikers failed to make it count when they were presented with opportunities in front of goal.
Hearts of Oak’s Kwabena Boateng, Hanza Issah, and substitute Asamoah Boateng Afriyle came close to scoring, but they wasted the glorious opportunities that came their way.
While Dacosta Owusu, Zakaria Mumuni, and Bless Ege failed to get the ball past goalkeeper Benjamin Asare in post for Hearts,
Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 men after Theophilus Collinson was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Hearts trio of Raphael Amponsah, Emmanuel Amankwah, and Asare converted their spot kick while Samuel Amofa and Afriyle missed.
Zakaria Mumuni converted his final kick to send his side through to the round of 8 after Abdulai Zakaria, Edward Bentum, and Bless Ege had scored their kicks with man of the match, Dacosta Owusu, missing his kick.
