MTN Ghana calls for stronger commitment to women

MTN Ghana has called for a stronger commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and inclusive leadership as it marked the first anniversary of its Y’elloLadies Network under the theme: “Give to Give.”
Speaking at the event, Angela Kyeremanten-Jimoh, Chief Executive Officer of Brainwave Tech Africa, emphasized that giving is not only a moral responsibility but also a defining strength of leadership. She explained that leaders who invest in mentorship, trust, and opportunities create stronger teams and more innovative organizations.
“Giving creates a multiplier impact. One leader invests in one person, who then invests in others, and that is how movements begin,” she said. Leadership rooted in purpose, she added, inspires individuals to give their best, ultimately transforming communities and nations.
Mrs. Angela highlighted the critical role of women in shaping the future, urging attendees to see themselves as active creators of change rather than passive participants.
“When women rise, we do not rise alone. We lift families, strengthen organizations, and transform nations,” she stated, calling for a renewed commitment to collaboration, courage, and impact.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, described women’s empowerment as both a corporate priority and a deeply personal mission. Reflecting on his upbringing, he credited his mother’s strong influence for shaping his values and work ethic, particularly her emphasis on discipline and education.
Mr. Blewett also highlighted the influence of women in his personal and professional life, including his wife and daughter, whose strength and independence reinforce his commitment to creating opportunities for women to excel.
“At MTN, the success we see today is not by chance. It is the result of passionate contributions from across the organization, particularly from the women in our leadership team,” he said.
He stressed the importance of mentorship and coaching as essential tools for leadership growth and challenged women in leadership positions to actively support and uplift others, cautioning against competitive mindsets that hinder collective progress.
“Leadership is not about pulling others down, it is about lifting people up. Each leader has a responsibility to develop those coming behind them,” he noted, adding that both men and women must work together to foster inclusive growth.
Encouraging members of the Y’elloLadies Network to embrace their individuality, he urged women to confidently showcase their talents and contributions.
“Bring your uniqueness, let it shine, and make it part of the organization’s success,” he said.
The anniversary celebration served not only as a milestone but also as a call to action for women to lead with purpose, invest in others, and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s growth story.
