MTN Ghana committed to development of colts football
MTN Ghana has indicated its commitment to partner both private and public sectors in order to develop football at the grassroots (colt’s football) level.
Speaking at the MTN Ghana Media Republic Connect last week, the Chief Corporate Service and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, Madam Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, stated that the company was committed to seeing the game of football grow and thrive to the highest level in the country.
Despite its description as the backbone of the country’s football, Colts football, she said, lacks any serious investment, affecting the performance of the various national teams, including the Black Stars.
“We are doing a lot for football in the country at the moment; however, we are yet to fully go into any serious college developmental project. This is because we are looking to partner bodies and institutions well vested in that area to come out with worthy proposals for consideration and implementation.”
“We believe football at every level deserves the much-needed attention, and with the right proposal and consideration, we would go into that venture,” she said.
She noted that, “Presently, our commitment is seen heavily at the senior national team level-the Black Stars, where we recently signed a US$2 million contract with the GFA to make sure our Black Stars excel at the the World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
“The sponsorship of the Black Stars is a reinforcement of the faith we have in this nation and in everything that is important to us, including our national football assets,” she revealed.
She said the company extended its long sponsorship relationship for the MTN FA Cup for three more seasons last year with a total sponsorship package worth over GH¢4m.
The relationship between the GFA and MTN commenced in the 2010-11 season and was renewed in 2013, 2017and 2020.
“The MTN FA Cup is a thrilling competition that brings together 18 Premier League clubs, 48 Division One League clubs, and 44 Division Two League clubs from the 10 Regional Football Associations, bringing to a total of 110 clubs to participate in the competition.”
“Through our sponsorship, MTN touches the lives of all these clubs in the country and beyond,” she added
