MTN Ghana Foundation holds blood donation exercise

The MTN Ghana Foundation, as part of its firm commitment to healthcare delivery and emergency response, has organised a blood donation exercise at Berekum Senior High School and All for Christ Senior High School in the Bono Region.
The exercise, held on Friday, forms part of the Foundation’s flagship “Save a Life” campaign — a nationwide initiative that has been running for more than 15 years.
Medical personnel from the Bono Regional Teaching Hospital supervised the exercise and ensured strict adherence to safety protocols throughout the donation process.
The annual campaign, which coincided with this year’s Valentine’s Day celebrations, has become one of the most impactful corporate health interventions in the country.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the Bono Regional Manager of MTN Ghana, Kofi Owusu, said the blood donation drive was an expression of love and compassion toward humanity.
He explained that the initiative sought to inculcate the habit of voluntary blood donation among young people and build a culture of regular donation to support hospitals in times of crisis.
Mr Owusu disclosed that the Foundation had set a national target of collecting 7,000 units of blood for this year’s campaign, with the Bono Region expected to contribute 450 units.
As of 2 p.m. on Friday, more than 300 units had already been realised in the region.
The Head of the Blood Bank at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Enock Gyau, who supervised the exercise, commended MTN Ghana for the initiative.
He noted that most health facilities in the region and beyond depend largely on the Teaching Hospital for blood supply, creating shortages and mounting pressure on the facility.
According to him, the initiative has saved many lives and helped stock the blood banks of health facilities.
He, therefore, appealed to the general public to volunteer to donate blood regularly to help save lives.
A final-year General Arts student of Berekum Senior High School, Miss Pokuaa Francisca, who participated in the exercise, called on the public to see blood donation as a national duty in promoting healthcare delivery in Ghana.
