Murder of 2 policemen case adjourned to Nov 19
The Kaneshie District court in Accra, has adjourned to November 19, the case of the murder of two policemen, Mohammed Awal and Michael Dzamesi, in Kasoa, in the Central Region.
This is because the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare, failed to appear before the court presided by Eleanor Botchway.
A letter from prosecution seeking the court’s permission to be absent was tendered and the court queried why it had not received prior information about the inability of prosecution and the accused to appear before court.
George Eshun, counsel for accused, Eric Duah and Mike Anim, expressed disappointment that prosecution failed to officially inform him that he would not be able to attend court proceeding.
Reacting to publication by some media outlets on the ongoing trial, Mr Eshun said he was unhappy about how journalists sensationalised reportage on the case, describing it as unprofessional.
He cited the daily guide newspaper as an example and asked the paper to report exactly what happened in court.
Mr Eshun said: “I never said my client was mad, but that is what daily guide reported. It is not the right thing to do, and I am not happy about this.
“I know the media know what is right, but they intentionally sensationalise their report to attract attention.”
The court cautioned journalists against reporting unprofessionally, saying it was important for journalists to be circumspect in their reportage.
The deceased policemen, personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) at Kasoa, were performing official duties when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The accused are currently in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
