NADMO district offices in V/R receive 35 motorcycles
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa yesterday presented 35 motorcycles to district directors of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to facilitate their activities.
At a brief handing over ceremony, Dr Letsa said that the motorcycles were given to them by government to retool NADMO, so that they can be very effective in their activities.
He urged the directors to maintain the motorcycles regularly, and use them for its intended purpose to be able to enhance their work.
The Volta Regional NADMO Director, Mr Divine Bosson cited that, in 2009 every district in the region was having a pick-up and motorcycles, but they were all auctioned.
He said that the provision of the 35 motorcycles was the beginning of retooling NADMO to aid its activities.
Mr Bosson disclosed that, the region will be receiving an ambulance and pick-ups to be able to respond to emergency calls.
He said NADMO should not only be known for distributing relief items, but identifying risk factors and mapping hazards out before they occur.
Mr Bosson said the regional disaster management committee, which is chaired by the Regional Minister, would be developing a disaster management plan to manage disasters in the region.
Mr Godfred Root Kudalor, NADMO District Director for Akatsi North, who received the motorcycles on behalf of the other beneficiaries, expressed his appreciation to the government and assured that it would be used for its intended purpose.
