NALA partners BigPay to enhance payment, remittance services

NALA, an international payment service provider, has entered into a partnership with BigPay Ghana Limited to provide payment and remittance services in the country.
The partnership, approved by the Bank of Ghana, aims to provide ease and convenience to people abroad who want to remit home.
Addressing a news conference on the partnership in Accra yesterday, the Regional Lead for Africa, NALA, Peter Kisadha, said his outfit, which currently operates in Europe, America, Asia, and 12 African countries, was proud to associate with the payment giant to deliver payment and remittance solutions in Ghana.
He said the event marked a significant milestone for NALA, noting that the company’s mission was “to build payments for the next billion.” That mission, he explained, was anchored on developing secure, fast, and reliable payment systems tailored to the needs of emerging markets.
Mr. Kisadha stressed that NALA’s expansion across Africa, the United States, Europe, Asia, and the United Kingdom had been guided by two core principles: strict compliance with regulatory requirements and operational excellence through the right partnerships. In Ghana, he said, those principles were being realized through collaboration with the Bank of Ghana and BigPay.
He emphasized that the partnership would benefit individuals abroad who wanted to remit home, as it guaranteed improved trust, security, and efficiency in remittances. Remittances, Mr. Kisadha said, continued to play a crucial role in the Ghanaian economy, particularly during festive seasons when inflows surged.
However, he stated that challenges such as insecurity, high fees, unfavorable exchange rates, and unreliable service still affected the sector in many parts of Africa. Mr. Kisadha said NALA was one of the payment service providers with the lowest remittance and payment fees and expressed the hope the partnership would help bring the cost of remittance and payment fees down.
According to him, the Bank of Ghana’s approval was a seal of confidence, assuring Ghanaians abroad that funds sent through NALA, working in partnership with BigPay, would be delivered promptly and safely. The arrangement would allow customers to receive funds directly into mobile money wallets and bank accounts nationwide.
Mr. Kisadha lauded BigPay, describing the company as one of the most important players in Ghana’s financial services ecosystem.
The Managing Director of BigPay Ghana Limited, Mr. Isaac Tetteh, said his outfit was equally excited about the collaboration, describing the journey towards approval as long but fulfilling. He noted that although BigPay already held the required licence, additional steps were needed to satisfy all regulatory conditions for the partnership to commence.
He said the three-year partnership, which would be renewed annually afterwards, was anchored on shared values of integrity and customer-centred innovation. BigPay, he stated, had invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure that ensured the safe termination of inward remittances.
Mr. Tetteh said BigPay’s systems were capable of completing payouts into mobile wallets within two to three seconds, supported by robust security, ISO and PCI certifications, and 24-hour customer service. He expressed optimism that the partnership would deepen Ghana’s remittance landscape and deliver fast, secure, and reliable services to consumers.
