Nana Oye donates to Dzorwulu Special School on 60th birthday

The Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampo Addo, on Thursday marked her 60th birthday with a donation to the Dzorwulu Special School.

The donation, which included food items such as bags of rice, cooking oil, drinks and other essentials, as well as an undisclosed cash component, is expected to support teaching and learning and improve the welfare of students.

As part of activities marking the celebration, pupils of the school danced with Nana Oye, showcased beautiful choreography for invited guests, and participated in a colourful cake-cutting ceremony to climax the event.

The gesture reaffirmed Nana Oye’s long-standing commitment to inclusion, social justice and support for persons with disabilities.

According to Nana Oye, a renowned human rights lawyer, her decision to spend the milestone birthday with students of the special school was an act of service, reflecting her belief that leadership and national progress are defined by compassion and responsibility towards the most vulnerable in society.

Addressing students, staff and management of the school, she described birthdays as moments for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to service.

She stated that turning 60 had strengthened her resolve to give back to society, particularly to children living with disabilities.

Nana Oye underscored the transformative power of education, attributing her personal and professional journey to the opportunities education provided, supported by faith, discipline and dedication.

“Investing in education for children with special needs,” she said, “is both a moral responsibility and a national priority.”

She explained that her choice of the Dzorwulu Special School was based on the institution’s dedication to empowering learners with disabilities and restoring hope through quality education.

Nana Oye used the occasion to call for sustained national investment in disability inclusion, urging government, the private sector, civil society and citizens to work together to remove barriers and expand opportunities.

“Disability has never been an inability,” she said, emphasising the resilience, talent and untapped potential of persons living with disabilities.

She also inspected an ultra-modern ICT facility acquired by the school through her influence to enhance effective teaching and learning.

School authorities expressed appreciation for the donation and Nana Oye’s long-standing relationship with the institution, and appealed for greater support from the wider Ghanaian public.
