The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its intention to secure 94 per cent of the votes in the North Tongu constituency of the Volta Region during the upcoming general election in December 2024.
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, stated that the goal of increasing the vote share by 4.68 per cent from the 89.7 per cent achieved in the 2020 elections would serve as evidence of the effective leadership and accountability demonstrated by his office and the NDC to the constituents of North Tongu and the broader Volta Region.
Addressing a large assembly of party supporters in Mepe on Saturday, following a health initiative known as the “Victory Walk,” Mr Ablakwa emphasised the significant contributions made by his office in the areas of health, education, infrastructure, and various livelihood programmes.
He expressed his belief that these efforts would support the achievement of the targeted 94 per cent of votes in the forthcoming elections.
The walk formed part of activities which included a medical outreach and door-to-door campaign all aimed at solidifying the base of the NDC in the North Tongu constituency to secure victory in the upcoming general election.
His address also featured bold plans to revive the Juapong Textile Factory which he (Mr Ablakwa) led the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, on a visit tour in July 2022 to help identify the right investors for the factory and also the Aveyime Rice Factory if the NDC returns to power in 2025.
According to him, the revival of these industries would create jobs for the teeming youth in North Tongu and would ran under the 24 hour economy policy.
Mr Ablakwa further stated that these promises were well captured in the NDC manifesto and the former President, John Dramani Mahama, was committed to their implementation
