NGO Appeals to UN for Decisive Action on Global Peace and Sustainable Development

A Ghana-based non-governmental organisation, Save The Nation For Future Leaders, has appealed to the United Nations to take decisive and far-reaching action to de-escalate rising global tensions and promote lasting peace as a foundation for sustainable development.
The appeal comes amid heightened geopolitical strains involving countries such as Iran, Russia, the United States of America, China, and other regions experiencing instability, developments which observers say pose serious risks to international security, economic stability, and human safety.
In a formal appeal addressed to the leadership of the United Nations, the Founder and President of Save The Nation For Future Leaders, Mr Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, urged the global body to intensify diplomatic engagement, mediation, and multilateral cooperation to prevent further escalation and restore confidence in international peace efforts.
Mr Apeakorang noted that the UN was established primarily to maintain global peace and security, stressing that the international community continues to look to the Organisation for leadership during periods of uncertainty. He expressed concern that perceived limited engagement on some critical global developments could undermine public trust in the UN’s historic mandate.
According to the organisation, ongoing and emerging conflicts are already negatively affecting global business, trade, investment, and supply chains, while also endangering lives and property. It argued that peace remains an indispensable pillar for sustainable economic growth and international cooperation.
Mr Apeakorang further highlighted that resources currently devoted to weapons, military operations, and war-related expenditures could be redirected toward environmental sustainability, climate action, and responsible resource management if global peace is prioritised. “Maintaining world peace will not only save lives but also allow nations to focus on addressing urgent environmental and developmental challenges that threaten humanity’s future,” he stated.
Save The Nation For Future Leaders also referenced its previous engagements with the UN, including petitions in 2023 and 2024 calling for dialogue to end the Russia–Ukraine conflict, as well as a renewed appeal in June 2025 for global peace following major international developments. These actions, the organisation said, demonstrate its consistent belief in the UN as the foremost platform for dialogue and conflict prevention.
The organisation reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the UN on initiatives that connect peacebuilding with environmental protection and sustainable development, urging renewed global commitment to cooperation, stability, and shared prosperity.
Mr Apeakorang expressed confidence that decisive leadership from the UN would help redirect global priorities from conflict toward peace, sustainability, and collective progress.
