NHIA disburses GH¢151m to healthcare providers

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢151 million to healthcare providers across the country to settle part of outstanding claims.

The disbursement is to settle claims from higher tier healthcare providers for March 2024 and claims for majority of clients at the lower tier facilities made in April 2024

This was announced in a press statement issued and signed by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, and copied the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.

According to the statement, the disbursement underscored NHIA’s commitment to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“This disbursement is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),” it said.

The NHIA, the statement said, was dedicated to maintaining a robust partnership with facilities as it recognised the role healthcare providers play in the success of the NHIS.

“The NHIA will continue to engage with stakeholders to address any concerns and work towards a sustainable and efficient healthcare system,” it added.

The disbursement by the NHIA follows a previous disbursement of GH¢135.6 million in July 2024 to settle outstanding claims of February 2024 for higher tier healthcare providers.

It also covered payment for March 2024 for the majority of clients at lower tier facilities.
