NSA announces stadium closure
Four clubs – Accra Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Accra Lions and Dreams FC have less than a fortnight to sort out grounds issues following a directive from the managers of the Accra Sports Stadium, the National Sports Authority (NSA), to the clubs to relocate.
According to the NSA by a letter signed by its Director General, Prof. Peter Twumasi, the affected would have to relocate by the end of the month because the facility would not be available for the month of December.
“The National Sports Authority (NSA) wishes to inform you about the unavailability of the Accra Sports Stadium in December for sporting purposes.”
“By this letter, all the clubs that use the Accra Sports Stadium are entreated to use their alternative venue to honour their league matches in December,” the letter stated.
This is a repeat of last year’s arrangement when the stadium was closed down to accommodate events related to the Christmas festivities.
That sent Hearts to the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Olympics to the Sogakope Park which was not spared by the Akosombo Dam spillage devastation.
Dreams FC, which plays their Premier League games at the Dawu Theatre of Dreams, would also have to look for a venue for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage matches.
