On the occasion of visit of Ethiopia Premier, Ebiy Ahmed:Ghana, Ethiopia vow to deepen relations…for the benefit of citizens

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed the commitment to renew Ghana’s relationship with Ethiopia, which dates back to the early days of independence, to the mutual benefit of citizens of both nations.

The President made this remark when the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Ebiy Ahmed, who is on a three-day working visit in Ghana, called on him at the Jubilee House, Accra yesterday.

In a short interaction with the media before a closed-door meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart, President Akufo-Addo said Ghana would expand its exchanges with the East African country to enhance the bond of friendship that exists between the two countries.

“He has come to talk to us about the progress of bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Ghana and then of course, necessarily, regional and continental issues will also be part of our meeting,” he said.

Ghana and Ethiopia have enjoyed cordial relations since the time of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Emperor Haile Selassie.

Both nations played key roles in the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU) and the struggle for the emancipation of the continent.

Ghana and Ethiopia hope to expand their economic ties, and revitalise their trade relations.
