PAOG Closes 2026 Hajj Subscription

The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, citing the need to prevent over-subscription and ensure effective management of the annual religious exercise.

A statement issued by PAOG and signed by Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the Director of Communications, explained that the decision was a proactive step aimed at “aligning the number of confirmed pilgrims with the country’s approved quota for the 2026 Hajj, while safeguarding the smooth, orderly, and well-coordinated execution of the pilgrimage.”

PAOG noted that in previous years, excessive subscriptions beyond approved limits posed significant administrative and operational challenges, including delays in processing, logistical constraints, and difficulties in ensuring the timely airlifting of pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The closure of payments at this stage, the Office explained, was “intended to forestall such challenges and guarantee that all pilgrims who have successfully completed payment arrangements were duly facilitated to perform the Hajj without hindrance.”

It stressed that managing pilgrim numbers within approved limits remains critical to delivering a safe, efficient, and successful Hajj, particularly given strict international regulations governing pilgrim movements, accommodation, and transportation during the exercise.

PAOG assured the public that the decision was taken in the best interest of both prospective pilgrims and the nation, as it would enhance planning, coordination, and accountability throughout the Hajj process.

The Office advised members of the public, especially intending pilgrims who were unable to complete payments before the closure, to make adequate preparations for subsequent Hajj arrangements.

It further cautioned the public to be vigilant and wary of individuals or groups claiming they could facilitate participation in this year’s pilgrimage outside official channels. PAOG emphasised that it remains the sole authorised body mandated to organise Hajj operations in Ghana and urged the public to seek information only from official sources to avoid fraud or exploitation.

The Office reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and improvement in the administration of Hajj affairs nationwide.
