Police, Faith Ladies win historic women’s premier league , FA Cup

Police Ladies beat Ampem Darkoa Ladies 2-0 to win their first-ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
The game, played under heavy downpour, saw both teams press for a win to cap a successful campaign. Jane Ayieyam scored in the 27th minute after a dominant first half.
Victoria Teye Williams sealed the win with a goal in the 89th minute, making it a night to remember for Police Ladies. This historic win marks a significant milestone for the team, ending Ampem Darkoa’s dominance in the league.
Notably, Ampem Darkoa Ladies had previously enjoyed success against Police Ladies, such as in the 2017 Super Cup, where they won 2-0. However, in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League final, Police Ladies emerged victorious on May 18, 2025.
The win earns Police Ladies a spot in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League, highlighting their dedication and hard work throughout the campaign.
Earlier on, Faith Ladies emerged victorious in a dramatic encounter, securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Jonina Ladies in extra time to claim the Women’s FA Cup trophy.
The match began cautiously, with both teams probing for openings. Faith Ladies’ Anastasia Bansah received a yellow card in the 8th minute for a reckless challenge. Jonina Ladies made an early substitution in the 41st minute, bringing on Lordina Osei for Abigail Bosu. Despite some half-chances, neither side could break the deadlock, as the first half ended 0-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. After 90 minutes, the match remained locked at 0-0, sending the final into extra time.
The game exploded into life in extra time. Jonina Ladies’ Joyce Atimbila broke the deadlock in the 97th minute, but Faith Ladies’ Erica Obeng Apreku equalised just a minute later. Apreku then scored again in the 112th minute, putting Faith Ladies 2-1 ahead. Jonina Ladies pushed for an equalizer, but Faith Ladies held firm, sealing a historic victory.
