Police inspector interdicted over alleged robbery of mobile money vendor

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has interdicted a Police Inspector stationed at Asuoyeboah in Kumasi for his alleged involvement in a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor.

The suspect, identified as Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah of the Asuoyeboah Police Station, was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Anti Robbery Unit following what the police described as intelligence led operations.

According to a statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, a search conducted at the suspect’s residences led to the retrieval of a Bruni Mod. 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and an amount of GH¢9,835.00.

The statement indicated that the officer had since been interdicted in line with internal disciplinary procedures of the Ghana Police Service to allow for investigations into the matter.

It said the suspect was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on May 11, 2026, where he was remanded into police custody.

The court ordered him to reappear on May 29, 2026, while investigations continue.

The police did not disclose details of the alleged robbery incident or the circumstances leading to the arrest of the officer.

However, the Regional Command assured the public that investigations were ongoing and that due process would be followed in dealing with the matter.

The interdiction of the officer means he would remain off duty pending the outcome of both the criminal investigations and internal disciplinary proceedings.
