Policeman attempts suicide in Kumasi
Policeman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a three-storey building at the police barracks, in Kumasi on Saturday.
He has been identified as Corporal (Cpl) Emmanuel Sarpong personnel of the Kumasi Ridge Police Station.
The reason for his action is not known, and according to a police source, investigations had started into the cause of the incident.
The incident has raised concerns about the mental well-being of some law enforcement personnel and the need for appropriate support systems for the police.
According to the police source, Cpl Sarpong, who suffered multiple fractures, was on admission at the Emergency Ward at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The source claimed that he went to the Kumasi Central Barracks, climbed the storey building situated within the barracks and jumped, injuring himself in the process.
Cpl Sarpong was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, in Kumasi, where he has been admitted to the emergency ward for treatment.
At the time of filing this report, he was said to be responding to treatment.
It was revealed that he suffered fractures on both legs and doctors were yet to assess the extent of the fractures
