President John Dramani Mahama, in accordance with Article 243(1) and section 20(1) of the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 936) has nominated 72 persons for appointment as District Chief Executives across eight regions.
They are Volta 18, Oti, 9, Ahafo, 6, Bono, 10, Bono East, 9, Savannah, 5, North East 6 and Western North, 9.
The nominations pend the approval of the respective Assemblies, a statement signed and issued in Accra yesterday by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, said.
In the Volta Region, 18 nominations have been made to Ho, Hohoe, Ketu South, Ketu North, Keta, Adaklu, Afadjato South, Agortime-Ziope, Akatsi North, Akatsi South, Anlo, Central Tongu, Ho West, North Tongu, South Dayi, and North Dayi districts with Kpando pending.
For the Oti Region nominees for the Akan, Biakoye, Buem, Guan, Krachi East, Krachi Nchumuru, Krachi West, Nkwanta North, and Nkwanta South districts have all been named.
Nominees for the five districts in the Ahafo Region – Asunafo North and South, Asutifi North and South and Tano North and South – have all been named.
In the Bono East Region, nominations for the Berekum East, Banda, Dormaa, East, West and Central, Wenchi, Tain, Sunyani East, Jaman North and South have all been made.
Districts with nominations in the Bono East Region are Sene East and West, Pru East and West, Kintampo North and South, Nkoranza North and Techiman North.
For the Savannah Region, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, North, Central and North East Gonja, and Salaga South districts have their chief executive nominees named.
Districts with named nominees in the North East Region are Bunkpurugu, Chereponi, East and West Mamprusi, Mamprugu Moaduri, and Yunyoo/ Nansuan.
Nominees for the Akontombra, Aowin, Bia East and West, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Bodi, Juaboso, Wiawso and Suaman have all been named.
By these nominations, there are 189 more chief executives left to be selected to complement all 261 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies across the country.
