Railway workers laud govt for payment of salary arrears

Management and workers of the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) have lauded the government for paying their three month’s salary arrears.

“The capital injection has put the GRCL in a better position to help finance its operations, become self-sufficient and continue to operate on its own,”the Acting Managing Director of GRCL, Mr John Essel, in a press release copied to the Ghanaian Times stated.

He added “Management and workers of GRCL would like to express appreciation to Government and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assisted by the sector Minister for capital injection into the company this year, part of which was used to pay the three months salary arrears of workers.”

Mr Essel noted that through the efforts of government, GRCL would soon take delivery of track tools, spare parts and equipment imported by the Ghana Manganese Company Limited, recently, for the rehabilitation of five locomotives and several mineral wagons to augment the current fleet of manganese trains.

This step, he said, would increase the haulage of manganese ore from Nsuta to the Takoradi Port for export.

“This, when done, will increase revenue and also boost the fortunes of GRCL,” Mr Essel explained, and thanked the President for his continuous support to the company.
