Rainstorm destroys 39 houses, displaces 100 people at Abutia-Teti
More than 100 people at Abutia-Teti in the Ho West District have been displaced following a rainstorm which destroyed over 39 houses on Wednesday.
This was after 13 houses got completely destroyed the previous night by a similar storm.
The down pour which started at about 8pm and lasted for 30 minutes affected mainly the aged and the vulnerable.
Rev. Richard Mawutor Buamah, Pastor in-charge of the Abutia-Teti E.P. Church Pastoral District who disclosed this to the ‘Ghanaian Times’ yesterday, said Abutia-Teti was now in state of shock and at a standstill as a result of the incident.
“Some people have left for Ho and other places to perch with their friends and relatives while others are still in the community stranded,” he said.
Rev. Buamah said with more heavy clouds in the skies, the people of the community are gripped with greater fear and anxiety, as they wondered where help would come from.
Meanwhile, the Ho West DCE, Mr Ernest Victor Apau has led officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to the disaster scenes to assess the damage.
“We will do our best to bring some relief to the victims”, he assured.
