‘Safeguard country’s peace ahead of December 7 polls’
The Faidhatu Tijaniyya Ibrahimiyya Council of Ghana has called on Ghanaians particularly, the Muslim community to ensure that the peace of the country was safeguarded ahead of the presidential and parliamentary election to be held on Saturday.
It has also urged electoral management bodies, including the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security services to ensure that the electioneering process was transparent and fair as well as the protection of electorates from violent acts.
The Council made the call in a statement issued by its chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Alhassan Shaban and copied The Ghanaian Times yesterday.
Furthermore, it advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used or influenced by political leaders to toe the path of violence or to foment trouble during the election.
“The youth are the future of the nation, and their participation should reflect the values of peace, unity, and positive change. Let us channel our energy into building a stronger, more united Ghana for generations to come,” the statement said.
“We implore the youth to reject violence and actively participate in the electoral process peacefully and productively,” it added.
The Council also indicated in the statement that the peace pact that was recently signed by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mr John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was worthy of commendation.
Additionally, it said that the signing of the peace pact by the two presidential candidates was a testament to the maturity of the country’s democratic governance.
“We congratulate them for signing the Peace Pact, demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s cherished peace and stability. Their exemplary leadership sets the tone for the entire nation to prioritise the greater good above all differences,” the statement said.
“As a spiritual fraternity, we continue to uphold and execute our spiritual interventions for peace and divine protection for the Republic of Ghana as was the practice of Sheikh Mohammed Salis Shaban, a Trans-West African Spiritual Luminary and Tijaniiya-Faidha Cleric,” it continued.
“Finally, we pray for Allah’s blessings upon our dear country. May He guide our leaders, protect the vulnerable, and grant Ghana a peaceful, free, and fair election. May Allah bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” it added.
