Salah wants Van Dijk to sign Liverpool contract

MOHAMED Salah is hoping that Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, follows suit in signing a new contract at Anfield after the Dutchman headed them three points closer to the Premier League title with a last-minute goal against West Ham.

Salah, who by the point of Van Dijk’s header had departed to the bench, put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Liverpool earlier in the week.

“I am glad we managed to do that [contract] before the end of the season,” the Egyptian said.

“Hopefully, Virgil will be next. He can do whatever he wants, but I would love to play with him next season.”

An own goal from Andy Robertson brought The Hammers level with four minutes left to play, only for Van Dijk to head home from a corner and put The Reds back on track for the title in a matter of weeks.

“I was on the bench, it is worse there!” exclaimed the Egyptian after the nervy end to the game. “We got there in the end, which is the most important thing.”

With his assist for Luis Diaz’s opening strike in the 2-1 win, Salah increased his tally of goal involvements in the league to 45 (27 goals, 18 assists).

It sets the record for goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League campaign.

“They are a good team with a good plan,” he continued.

“They managed to score and at that stage, the most important thing is to win the game.” —tntsports
