Savelugu residents hail garment factory for creating jobs

RESIDENTS of the Savelugu Municipality in the Northern Region have praised Northshore Apparel GH Ltd for establishing a garment factory in the area, describing it as a major step towards creating jobs and reducing rural-urban migration.
They believe the investment will significantly boost economic growth and ensure long-term sustainability in the municipality.
The company is currently training 2,000 young people to equip them with employable skills in various fields. Out of the number, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is sponsoring 1,000 trainees, while the National Youth Authority is supporting the remaining 1,000.
The €10.2 million garment factory is expected to produce clothing for both local and international markets.
The facility includes over 5,000-square-metre of sewing production space, a 4,000-square-metre cutting and design section, and an 8,000-square-metre warehouse for raw materials and export processing.
It is also equipped with workers’ changing rooms, canteen services, a crèche for nursing mothers, and an in-house clinic staffed by a full-time nurse and a visiting doctor.
The company says its core mission aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 10 on inclusivity and empowerment. As part of this commitment, it has pledged guaranteed employment opportunities for students of the Savelugu School for the Deaf under a cooperative agreement between the school and Northshore Apparel Ghana.
Miss Fati Ibrahim, a trainee beneficiary, told The Ghanaian Times during a visit by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness that the establishment of the factory would help transform their economic lives.
She said it would also open more opportunities for young people in the municipality and beyond.
Miss Ibrahim commended Northshore Apparel GH Ltd for giving the youth the opportunity to acquire valuable skills and secure decent-wage employment within their own communities, while providing alternative livelihoods across various sectors of the economy.
She added that the youth in the municipality were ready to work with the factory at any time to gain more employable skills.
Miss Ibrahim therefore appealed to the management of the factory to sustain its operations, noting that many more young people in the area were eager to benefit from the training opportunities.
