Scrap dealer jailed 2 months for theft at GAF premises

A scrap dealer, who stole a quantity of iron rods at the premises of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), was sentenced to two months imprisonment in hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court.

Wisdom Adjovu, 34, admitted the offence in addition to damaging the GAF concrete slab.

Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court presided over by Mrs Susanna Eduful that Lance Corporal Prince Acheampong, the complainant, was an investigator with the Ghana Military Police, Burma Camp.

He said Adjovu was a scrap dealer and lived at La Old Court area.

Insp Alorwu told the court that the GAF have some apartments at Labadi Villas, where witnesses in this case worked as sanitary men.

The prosecution said on August 16, 2023, the sanitary men whilst working at the sewage dump site, spotted Adjovu with a hammer breaking concrete slabs.

Insp Alorwu said that a witness grabbed the convict who had already concealed four iron rods in a sack.

The prosecution said the witness with the assistance of a colleague empowered Adjovu, and invited the Military Police to arrest Adjovu and taken to the La Police.

Prosecution said the Adjovu during interrogation admitted the offence.
