SDD-UBIDS commits to exceptional academic experience — Prof. Derbile
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, has assured students of the university’s support to enable them to achieve their desired academic aspirations.
He said the university was committed to serving students and providing them with an exceptional academic experience to equip them to become competitive global citizens.
Professor Derbile gave the assurance at the 5th matriculation ceremony for students who gained admission to pursue various undergraduates and postgraduate programmes for the 2024-2025 academic year.
A total of 4,332 students were inducted into the various programmes of the university, representing a one per cent increase in admission over the 2023-2024 academic year with 62 per cent of them being males and 38 per cent females for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The VC reminded the fresh students of the need to exhibit good character in the school alongside their academic activities.
‘’The university will continue to work tirelessly to introduce new market driven and innovative programmes that will address the human resources needs for national development,” he said.
He asked the students to remain focused in their pursuit of higher education as the school management assures them of their maximum support and cooperation throughout their stay on campus.
‘’As we matriculate you today, please be aware that we are not only preparing you to be successful within national or local contest but we have set a clear agenda to shape you into competitive global citizens ready to thrive on the international stage,’’ he added.
Again, he told the students that challenges would come but they must team up with faculty and management to address them, adding that the university would launch the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for brilliant but needy undergraduate students, aimed to promote diversity and gender inclusivity in access to tertiary education.
Moreover, the VC noted that Stanbic Bank Limited had already provided an amount of GH¢40,000.00 to operate the scheme and appealed to other organisations and individuals to help enhance female access to tertiary education.
On infrastructure, he stressed, the university was working hard to execute all its uncompleted projects to promote teaching and learning.
The matriculating students pledged to exhibit good behaviour and to contribute their quota to the development of the university.
