Serene Insurance Ltd provides GH¢20m insurance cover for Black Stars

Serene Insurance Ltd, a member of the First Sky Group and a leading general insurance company, has announced a support package for the national men’s football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tournament, to be hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The package comprises GH¢2 million in cash and a GH¢20 million aggregate Group Personal Accident Insurance cover for the period June 1 to July 31, 2026. Coverage includes GH¢100,000 for each player, GH¢30,000 for each technical team member, and GH¢10,000 for each sponsored supporter (fan). The 24-hour policy covers bodily injury or death resulting from an accident during the tournament.
The announcement aligns with Ghana’s fundraising campaign ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officially launched by President John Mahama at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra. The campaign seeks to raise $30 million to fund Ghana’s participation in the World Cup and four international friendly matches.
Commenting on the support, Serene Insurance’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, said:
“The Black Stars are the nation’s pride on the pitch. Serene Insurance is honoured to support them with cash and insurance cover, demonstrating our commitment to backing talent, securing futures, and celebrating victories. We’re not just protecting players; we’re protecting dreams, securing glory, and shielding Ghana’s pride as the team aims for historic success.”
She added:
“This feat reflects our belief in Ghana’s potential and our commitment to securing a winning future for mother Ghana through investments in sports. Our support provides a major boost to the Black Stars’ preparations as they gear up for the tournament.”
The World Cup fundraising launch brought together key stakeholders from sports, entertainment, and business sectors, including former Black Stars players, musicians, and corporate leaders. The event also unveiled a World Cup raffle draw promotion as a strategic revenue tool to support Ghana’s campaign and help reach the fundraising target.
