Skolars break Bulls jinx in RLFG Men’s 13s championship

The University of Ghana rugby pitch at Legon was set into wild jubilations on Sunday afternoon after Skolars RLFC defeated bitter rivals Bulls RLFC 22–14 in the first round final game of ongoing Rugby League Federation Ghana Men’s 13s championship.
It was the very first time Skolars were seeing the back of the defending league champions, Bulls, in six seasons.
Dubbed the “El classico” the game lived up to the bill as it provided the electric atmosphere demanded of a crunch game between two team that share five titles between them, Skolars with three and Bulls twice winners.
Skolars opened the scoring through Richard Amevor before Bulls responded with a try from Desmond Geotrah and a Brown Asare conversion to take the lead.
Skolars hit back with two more tries from Chris Da-Gama and Emmanuel Acheampong, plus a conversion from Aboudy Moussa to go into halftime leading 14–10.
In the second half, Bulls narrowed the gap with a try from Martin Buabeng but failed to convert. Skolars then pulled ahead with another try from Chris Da-Gama (57’) and a second from Acheampong (62’). Despite missed conversions, Skolars held firm to clinch a milestone 22–14 victor and go unbeaten through Round 1.
Nungua Tigers overpowered Dragons RLC 36–4 in a thrilling second game of the day whiles the final game saw Accra Panthers RLFC cruised past UG Titans 58–0, the biggest winning margin of the season so far.
Skolars RLFC ended the first round on top of the table with 15 points, Bulls with 10 points, Nungua Tigers with 9 points, Accra Panthers with 7 points with Dragons, following with three points while UG Titans remain bottom with no point.
The round is scheduled to kick-off on July 27.
