Slow start for Ghana in 2022 IHF Trophy tournament
The national men U-18 and U-20 handball teams of Ghana are competing in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy 2022 Zone 3 championships in Abidjan.
Team Ghana arrived on Wednesday in Abidjan for the three days tournament slated for November 23-26.
Ghana has been paired in Group B of both categories.
According to officials of the Ghana Handball Association (GHA), the U-18 tournament will see Ghana battle the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire and Niger for honours.
Group A would have Nigeria, Benin and Liberia in the seven-nation tournament.
At the U-20 level, Ghana would renew her age-long sports rivalry with Nigeria in what could be a potential cracker before battling Togo and Niger in group B.
Group A will have the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso and Liberia in action.
According to the officials, winners in both categories will participate in the continental phase of the IHF Trophy Tournament for Africa to be held in Brazzaville, Congo on December 12-18, 2022.
Ghana’s U-20 lost their opening game yesterday to neighbours Togo by 26-19 while the U-18 drew their opening game 21-21 with Niger.
Ghana’s Mubarak Bashiru was adjourned the Man of the Match in the U-18 game. –GHA
