South Korea embassy in Iran urges exit ahead of US strikes
THE South Korean Embassy in Iran has issued a notice urging citizens to “leave the country as soon as possible” in preparation for potential U.S. military strikes against Iran.
On the February 22, the embassy released a “safety advisory regarding the possibility of U.S. military action against Iran,” stating, “We request all nationals currently in Iran to depart immediately if their stay is not essential, and those planning to travel to Iran to cancel or postpone their trips.”
The South Korean government has currently issued a Level 3 (red alert) travel warning—recommending departure—for all regions of Iran. The embassy added, “If the local situation deteriorates rapidly, civilian flights may be suspended,” and urged citizens to “depart while available flights are still operating.”
It further emphasised, “As sudden changes in Iran’s security situation are possible, we ask all South Korean nationals in Iran to closely monitor media reports and embassy safety advisories, and to take extra precautions for personal safety.”
The advisory follows recent speculation about the possibility of U.S. military action against Iran.
The U.S., which is currently engaged in nuclear negotiations with Iran, has significantly escalated military pressure by deploying large-scale military assets, including nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, to the Middle East.
Observers note that the concentration of U.S. air power in the region—reportedly the largest since the 2003 invasion of Iraq—suggests an imminent attack.
Amid these tensions, the U.S. and Iran are expected to resume nuclear talks in Geneva, Switzerland, on the February 26.
According to Axios, an online media outlet, U.S. government officials view these diplomatic efforts as likely the final negotiation opportunity Iran will receive before President Donald Trump initiates military action directly targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
