‘Strong SWAG, NSA relations key to building confidence in Ghana sports’

The President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Mr Kwabena Yeboah, has assured that his outfit would continue to collaborate with the board and management of the National Sports Authority (NSA) to ensure transparency, accurate information dissemination, and professionalism in sports reportage in the country.
According to the experienced broadcaster, a strong working relationship between the NSA and SWAG was essential for rebuilding public confidence in Ghana’s sports structures.
Mr Kwabena Yeboah gave the assurance last week when the management and new board of the NSA called on the executive of the sports writers’ welfare body at its secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The NSA delegation was led by the Chairman of its Board, Dr Fred Awaah, and accompanied by the Director General, Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
For SWAG, the engagement falls in line with its continuous efforts to deepen relationships with state agencies responsible for sports development, while promoting dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding in the advancement of sports in Ghana.
Mr Yeboah emphasised the indispensable role of the media in sports development, noting that responsible sports journalism remains a critical pillar in shaping public opinion, advocating athletes, and holding institutions accountable.
He congratulated Dr Awaah on his appointment as Board Chairman of the NSA and assured him of SWAG’s unwavering support in promoting policies and programmes that will enhance the growth and sustainability of sports in Ghana.
The General Secretary of SWAG, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, also highlighted the association’s long-standing commitment to capacity building, ethical journalism, and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
He noted that SWAG remains committed to playing its role as a strategic partner in national sports development.
Responding, Dr Awaah expressed appreciation to SWAG for the warm reception and described the engagement as timely and significant.
He acknowledged the vital role SWAG has played over the years in promoting Ghana sports and shaping narratives that influence policy and public engagement.
Dr Awaah again reaffirmed the NSA board’s commitment to openness, collaboration, and continuous engagement with the media as part of its mandate to improve sports infrastructure and administration nationwide.
Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also underscored the importance of a media partnership in the NSA’s development agenda, stressing that effective communication and mutual respect between administrators and journalists were key to achieving long-term success.
Also present at the meeting were other SWAG executives including the Deputy General Secretary Mr Kenneth Odeng Adade, and Executive Committee Member Ms Tilda Elinam Acorlor.
