Water shortage has hit some communities in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region following the breakdown of the main transmission line.
According to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), the contractor working on some drains in the municipality had caused damage to the main pipe lines, thereby curtailing water supply to the affected areas.
Areas like Estate, Berlin Top, Newton and its environs have been without water for the past four days now, compelling residents to resort to searching of water everywhere.
Some residents of Estate who normally relied on their reservoirs whenever there was water shortage told the Ghanaian Times that they would run out of water if the situation did not improve.
Eunice Boateng, a nurse living at Estate told the Ghanaian Times that she had ran out of water and that she was planning to go to her father’s place at Kotokrom where they have mechanised borehole to wash her clothes.
Sandra Opoku, a resident at Berlin Top also complained of similar situation and appealed to the Ghana Water Company to do some thing about the situation.
The Bono Regional Manager of GWCL, Mr Adjei Kwarteng, when contacted explained that the company was working around the clock to restore water within the shortest possible time.
When asked if there was any alternative plan to supply water to affected areas, Mr Kwarteng said they could not embark on that because their water tanker had broken down, explaining that they were mobilising resources to repair it to resume work.
He, however, appealed to residents to store water, especially during this period (dry season) to forestall any eventualities.
