‘Support teachers inculcate reading habits in children’

The District Chief Executive of Central Tongu, Thomas Moore Zonyrah, has urged parents to support teachers inculcate reading habits in their children to be academically successful.

According to him, children who enjoy reading not only perform better in class but also broaden their minds and knowledge base.

Mr Thomas Moore Zonyrah made the appeal when he addressed school children and parents at the 63rd Independence Day celebration held at Adidome in the Central Tongu Distict.

He said even though teachers were doing their best to improve educational standards in basic schools, parents must always encourage their children to read other supplementary books.

The DCE expressed concern about the high teenage pregnancy in the district.

He noted that teenage pregnancy is considered a burden not only to the girl child but also to her family and society at large.

Mr Zonyrah enjoined all the citizenry to use freedom for building friendly neighbourhood, providing care and comfort to the needy, using the national resources for the improvement of the downtrodden.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Gabby Alexander Hottordze appealed to the people to be careful about the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus that was spreading fast and claiming lives.

“Let us do everything possible to ensure our safety by washing our hands, avoiding or reducing shaking of hands and report any signs and symptoms to a nearby health facility,” he stressed.
