SWAG to attend AIPS Africa Congress in Banjul

The General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Mr Charles Osei Asibey, will represent the association at the eighth edition of the Association of International Sports Press (AIPS) Africa Congress, scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from February 6 to 9.

The Congress, which will be held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo, is on the theme: “Digital Media, AI, and Ethical Journalism in Africa.”

According to a statement from SWAG, the event will provide a valuable platform for sports journalists across the continent to learn, network and enhance their professional capacities, particularly in the evolving digital media space.

Distinguished personalities expected at the Congress include the President of The Gambia, Mr Adama Barrow; President of AIPS, Mr Gianni Merlo; Ghana’s Minister for Sports, Mr Kofi Adams, as well as sports ministers from Senegal, Mali, Nigeria and other African countries, alongside renowned continental sports icons.

Over the years, AIPS has played a pivotal role in protecting the rights of sports journalists, promoting professionalism and ethical standards, and building capacity through training, advocacy and networking opportunities.

The Congress aims to bring together sports journalists and key stakeholders from across Africa to deliberate, collaborate and chart a progressive path for the future of African sports journalism, especially in the era of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Ghana previously hosted the sixth AIPS Africa Congress in Accra, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the growth of sports journalism on the continent.
