Swedru All Blacks upset Kotoko

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s journey to the top of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) was halted yesterday following a 2-1 stunning loss to GPL returnees Swedru All Blacks in their Matchday 17 clash at the Swedru Stadium.
Swedru All Blacks delivered their finest performance of the season, overshadowing Kotoko’s recent three-match winning streak. Historically, encounters between the two sides have been fierce and uncompromising, but yesterday’s game revived those intense memories as both teams fought to dominate.
From the start, the All Blacks displayed clear intent, matching Kotoko’s intensity and creating multiple chances, though they initially failed to convert. In the 37th minute, defender Roland Leveh fired the hosts ahead with a superb finish, rewarding the team’s positive approach.
Kotoko responded through Guinean striker Morifing Donzo, who restored parity after a swift counter-attack. However, the Reds lost momentum after their equalizer, allowing the hosts to regain control and dominate possession. Late in the first half, Rudolf Mensah tapped in a second goal from close range, sending the stadium into eruptions of celebration.
The second half saw Kotoko pressing for an equalizer, but the All Blacks’ defense held firm. Stellar saves from goalkeeper Aryee complemented the defensive resilience, securing a narrow but historic victory for Swedru All Blacks.
The result marks a significant statement from the GPL returnees, showing they are serious contenders in the league and capable of upsetting the top teams.
