Taekwondo: 15th Korean Ambassador’s Cup slated for Aug 15-16

The 15th Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship organised by the Korea Embassy in Accra in collaboration with the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has been slated for August 15-16.
The two-day sporting event would take place at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra with each day’s activity starting at 8am prompt.
It would be held in two main categories, namely Kyorugi and Poomsae, with the awards ceremony taking place on August 16 at 3pm.
The event is significant for Taekwondo in Ghana as it helps in showcasing talents and provide a platform for athletes to compete at the national level.
It also serves as a platform to prepare athletes for potential participation in the 2026 Youth Olympics to be held in Senegal.
According to the organisers, registration for the championship was ongoing, urging athletes to register in their numbers.
The Greater Accra Region emerged winners of the 14th edition held at the Trust Emporium in Accra after securing nine gold medals, eight silver medals, and 12 medals to garner 185 points.
The Volta Region followed in second position after securing four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals to obtain 72 points, while the Ashanti Region hauled four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals to record 68 points to place a third position.
The Upper East, Northern, Eastern, Bono, Upper West, Western and Central Regions followed from fourth to 10th in that order.
These Regions would be expected to better their positions during the upcoming event and thrill lovers of the sport with some eye-catching Taekwondo skills during the upcoming event.
Some dignitaries expected to be in attendance at the event are the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Park Kyongsig, the President of the GTF, Mr Frederick Lartey Otu, and his executives and many more.
