Takoradi Technical University to introduce PhD programmes
The Takoradi Technical University (TTU) is set to introduce Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Business Analytics and Technology Management, this year, the Vice Chancellor, Reverend Professor John Frank Eshun, has announced.
He said PhD programmes formed part of TTU’s commitment to expanding their academic portfolio, excellence, innovation and provide advanced research and learning opportunities that align with the evolving demands of both academia and industry.
He again continued that, “Our long-term goal is to develop PhD programmes across all faculties. The University has forged numerous academic partnerships with both local and international institutions to enhance TTU’s capacity.”
Rev. Prof. Eshun announced this in his report at the 24th Congregation of TTU held on Friday, to award Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, and Diploma of Technology, to deserving 2,678 graduands, who had successfully completed their programmes of study in the 2023/2024 academic year.
Already, he reported, TTU, this year, introduced new programmes, including BSc. Event Management, BSc. Real Estate Management, B. Tech. Media and Communication Technology.
Furthermore, he announced the TTU- United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) partnership to pilot the transfer of STEIN, a Japanese Soil Hardner Technology in Ghana.
The collaboration, Rev. Prof. Eshun explained, supported staff and student exchange programmes, industrial attachment placements, research and training initiatives.
He reaffirmed TTU’s commitment to delivering quality education, foster robust industry partnerships and equipping its graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.
The Vice Chancellor also revealed the ongoing commitment to expand academic opportunities, with the establishment of three new faculties, namely, the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime and Nautical Studies and Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies formally CELLIBS, bringing the total of faculties to 10.
TTU, Rev. Prof. Eshun said, was leading the way in fostering research collaborations with local and international institutions with the introduction of an inter-faculty research and publication ranking system, to assess, promote, and enhance a research culture and academic performance.
This initiative, he believed, aimed to nurture scholarly excellence among academic staff, increase the University’s visibility and improve its standing in research rankings.
The University, he added, recognised the positive influence of financial support in the form of scholarships, donations and investments from diverse sources, ensuring that students had the necessary resources to pursue their academic aspirations.
Moreover, Rev. Prof. Eshun mentioned that this gesture also offered TTU an opportunity to continuously improve and expand its programmes and facilities and thanked GIZ, GNPC Foundation, Mastercard, GETFund, Pecan Energy, West African Gas Pipeline, Karpowership Scholarship and Tobbin Scholarship scheme for their continuous supports.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated the graduands for achieving a significant milestone and well-deserved success, saying “I am confident that the quality of technical education you have received here has equipped you with the skills to generate your own jobs.”
The Acting Chairman of TTU Council, Dr Robert Adjaye, advised the graduands not to allow the crowning of the certificates be the end, but, “the beginning of another phase in their learning and professional career.”
