Takyi optimistic ahead of Nov 16 bout against Quartey

Ghanaian boxer, Samuel Takyi, a bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, is confident about defeating his rival, Emmanuel Quartey, in an 8-round lightweight contest at the Centre Point Mall, Atomic Junction in Accra on November 16.

Since turning professional in 2022, Takyi has maintained an unbeaten record and views this fight as a chance to demonstrate his readiness for a world title.

The highly anticipated bout, titled: ‘Street 2 Champions,’ is organised by boxing promotion firm ACE Power in collaboration with the Centre Point Mall.

As both fighters exchanged words in the build-up to their clash, Takyi expressed confidence in achieving his fourth victory as a professional, while Quartey, a former Ghana super flyweight champion, aims to ‘silence’ the young contender.

During a media briefing at the Centre Point Mall on Tuesday, Takyi acknowledged the challenge posed by the experienced Quartey.

Takyi thanked his coaches, promoters, and sponsors for the support and encouraged his fans to come out in their numbers, promising an exciting night of victory.

In addition to Takyi’s fight, IBF Inter-continental champion, Holy Dogbetor, will defend his title against Beninois boxer, Clement Lokko. Current super lightweight champion, Samuel Quaye, will face former lightweight champion, Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah, in a 12-round title defence.

African Games gold medalist, Mohammed Aryeetey, is set to compete against an opponent yet to be announced, while Dalvin Azumah Nelson Junior, son of former super-featherweight world champion, Azumah Nelson, will showcase his skills along with other amateur boxers in some undercard fights.

ACE Power’s General Manager, Mr Isaac Amankwah, shared the organisation’s vision of nurturing young talent from the streets of Ghana into champions like Azumah Nelson,

Ike Quartey, and Richard Commey, among others.

Centre Point Mall’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bhagwan Asnani, expressed his commitment to supporting boxing and other sports. He stated that the event marks the beginning of greater initiatives aimed at enhancing the development of boxing through partnerships and sponsorships.
